This early 20th century oil ‘Portrait of a Beaded Man’ is signed Reiss but I’ve not been able to find out who this was. It caught my eye because it looks like the artist Van Gogh. Could Reiss have been a friend that painted this troubled artist? It might be a wildshot, but I really enjoy the style and colours of this fairly-masculine piece of art.
Another interesting thing about this piece is that I’ve left the backing as it was when I bought it, with a piece of 1950-60s colourful red lino in situ – most strange, but I do like quirky.
